11th - 13th September

‘The Southdean Six’

Greetings! As we draw nearer to the Crossing Borders Art Trail weekend of 11–13 September we’ll be dropping some news items into the site to give you a hint of what’s on offer. Just before you start thinkin’ it’s all about individual studio openings it’s not. Some larger groups of artists and craft makers will be gathering en masse to show you their skills and give you the hard-to-resist opportunity to buy.

Remember Christmas is not a million miles away and this has to be the best opportunity to buy high quality art at reasonable prices.

Well, here goes:
First stop is in the very beautiful wilds at Chesters, east of Hawick. The ‘Southdean Six’ have gathered there to provide workshops and display a selection of good stuff which crosses all artistic divides.
Check out the atmospheric landscape photography of Ian Oliver – if you love the Eildons especially, he’s your man. Lindsay Roberts who spins wool for other craft makers will be providing workshops in creating with recycled paper – see the inspiring collection she’s made using textiles and papers and catch some of her talent. Also demonstrating her skills will be natural history illustrator Lynne Henderson – this is someone who makes something quite difficult look so easy! Many of you will know the ceramic work of Clair Norris – it’s totally contemporary, but looks great in homes old and new. Just marvel at her sheer originality – all reasonably priced. Finally there’s a feast to be found in the beautiful silk painting of the unbdoubtedly talented Mirjam van Beek and Danielle Ray’s bold designer jewellery in sterling silver and bronze with semi-precious stones.

Refreshments will be provided – just look for the bunting (in Southdean flag colours no less) outside the village hall.
